SnagFilms has a singular mission — to bring the world of independent film to broader audiences. SnagFilms was founded in 2008 as a part of AOL and is now operated as an independent concern; we partnered with their team in 2011 to implement a full site relaunch, including product development and leadership, visual design, and technology development.
The reengineered website was designed to facilitate easy discovery (assets are clearly organized by genre or channel) as well as seamless consumption (supported by a brand-new video player). The SnagFilms library at launch boasts 2,500 titles; given that depth, we created a queue application to allows users to save titles for later viewing. To further SnagFilm's mission of making movies a shared, social experience, the new product offers a variety of ways for viewers to share content — through e-mail, embedding, and sharing on Facebook or Twitter, as well as ratings and commenting.
Additionally, SnagFilms is committed to promoting filmanthropy — a term coined by founder and chairman Ted Leonsis to describe the power of documentaries to inspire community action. To that end, the new experience features a dedicated area for Filmanthropy where visitors can discover opportunities to get more involved with a specific cause.
