Circa, an independent digital venture backed by Sinclair Broadcast Group, launched its first website in July 2016 targeting a millennial audience. With video-centric news and entertainment products, Circa aimed to engage its visitors in compelling, in-depth stories from every corner of the world.

From the start, Circa realized it needed a powerful content management system that would enable the new site to meet its objectives. First and foremost, the platform had to deliver a multi-channel, video-centric experience. Circa aimed to leverage Facebook and SEO traffic to engage users in its “Learn, Think, Do” approach to user interaction.

In order to accomplish this goal, it needed a powerful, efficient, and scalable content management platform that allowed them to create editorial workflows, define users and roles, and implement A/B testing.

To accompany the content it was producing, Circa needed to expand and increase revenue generation opportunities. Both with updated designs and modernized capabilities, Circa sought to deliver effective advertising to increase opportunities for sponsorships.

Lastly, Circa needed robust metric reporting to track and understand its performance. With real-time analytics on content views and click-throughs and the ability to create rich, detailed metrics reports, Circa could better analyze its business and make informed decisions to improve its approach.

In early 2017, Circa turned to Perfect Sense and it’s digital experience platform, Brightspot, to help reimagine its site on both the front end and the back end.

In just 4 months, Perfect Sense delivered a fresh new user experience and visual design on the front end, and powerful new back end powered by Brightspot that provided the flexibility and reliability that Circa was seeking. In addition to building the re-designed site, Perfect Sense migrated over 10,000 articles and 7,000 videos to the new platform.

The new design includes flexible layouts for the home page and section pages where modules can be moved around by the production staff without development work. The article template supports updates for developing stories and offers infinite scroll keeping the users engaged with related content. Video playlists and live stream were also introduced keeping with the video-centric approach to content consumption. The updated backend provides the newsroom with superior workflow and publishing capabilities and a supremely flexible advertising framework that empowers Circa to monetize its site in new ways. The updated site design and transition to Brightspot has taken Circa to the next level from both an editorial and business perspective. Additionally, the opportunity for future integrations has greatly expanded the potential of the site.

Since the beginning of the relationship, Circa has been impressed with the quality of the product provided by Perfect Sense. Later in 2017, Circa will launch a new mobile app on Brightspot, as well as a refined personalization experience that will allow users to closely follow the stories that matter most to them.
