Established in 1884, Playbill has been the leading source of information for theatergoers around the world. With insightful articles about performers, productions, and special attractions, and stunning photography that brings the stage to life in print and online, Playbill has been a mainstay in theaters for over a century.
In June 2015, Perfect Sense and Playbill sat down to reimagine its online presence. Just 8 months after kicking off this project, Playbill launched a fully revamped user experience and content platform powered by Brightspot. The new site, Playbill’s first update since 1997, consolidated two legacy sites (Playbill.com and PlaybillVault.com) under one roof, allowing visitors to easily access all of its engrossing content in a single place.
In addition to a fresh look, Playbill.com now features powerful new functionality including an enhanced search tool that delivers quick results on articles, videos, photos, shows, people, and theaters; a reimagined job board to connect production companies and theater professionals; and a persistent right rail module that guides visitors to recent and popular content.
With over a century of data, migrating Playbill’s content was a tall order. Prior to launch, Perfect Sense successfully migrated over 170,000 articles, 135,000 people (actors, directors, musicians, etc.), 28,000 productions, and 325,000 images. This vast archive allows theater aficionados to access details from current hits like Hamilton to classics such as Les Misérables to weekly show earnings dating back to 1985.
The new site, which provides up-to-date information on Broadway, off-Broadway, regional tours, and London performances, is a fully responsive experience making Playbill more accessible on tablet and mobile devices.
